Ontario Airport Guide

Ontario is home to two international airports. The Lester B. Pearson Airport services the Toronto metropolitan area, and the Macdonald-Cartier International Airport provides access to Ottawa. Both airports offer connecting flights to other airports throughout Canada and the United States, as well as to a large number of international destinations.

Lester B. Pearson International Airport

The Lester B Pearson airport services the city of Toronto, and is the busiest airport in the country, connecting Toronto with other cities throughout North America and the world.

Terminals, piers and gates
The airport is served by two main terminals, 1 and 3.

Terminal 1 has three levels and handles domestic, international and trans-border flights within one entry point. Terminal 3 has only one level and mostly handles departures for domestic flights and flights to the USA (with customs preclearance).

Getting to and from the airport

Specially equipped with racks for luggage and plenty of space, “Rocket Buses” run by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) do their rounds 24 hours a day, and can take you into downtown Toronto for $3, with a few stops along the way.

Official taxi services are conveniently located at both terminals for both international and domestic arrivals, and limousines are on offer too. The airport has recommended against accepting rides from people soliciting inside the terminals, as they are not officially recognised and may be more costly.

Official pick-up locations at Terminal 1:
- Domestic: Taxis in Area A1, limousines in Area B1
- International: Taxis in D1, limousines in D3

Official pick-up locations at Terminal 3:
- Domestic: Taxis at Post 11, limousines at Post 19
- International: Taxis at Post 31, limousines at Post 35

Rent a car Car rental services are available from a wide range of car rental companies. The car rental counters can be found on level 1 of the parking garage which is adjacent to both terminals.

Ottawa: Macdonald–Cartier International Airport

The Macdonald-Cartier International Airport is located just 15 kilometres from downtown Ottawa.

Gates and terminals
Macdonald-Cartier has only one terminal that handles all arrivals and departures of both domestic and international flights. It has three levels:
- Level 1 – arrivals and baggage claim, as well as banks, a small selection of restaurants and a lost and found
- Level 2 – security and a variety of retailers
- Level 3 – check-in and food court, and an observation area from which to do some plane spotting.

Getting to and from the airport

Bus tickets for the Ottawa public transport bus, or “OC Transpo”, system are available at the Ground Transportation Deck which is found at the central door of the arrivals area on level 1. The route 97 bus (wheelchair accessible) departs from pillar 14 outside the level 1 arrivals area.

Taxis are readily available. It’s advisable to negotiate your fare before making use of one. Accessible vehicles and larger vehicles are available on request.

Rent a car
Car rental companies are located on level 1 of the parkade, across from the passenger terminal building. Passengers are advised to arrange their car rental at least 48 hours before arriving, but on-demand car rental is also available at a premium.
