Indonesia airport guide

Indonesia has numerous international airports serving the major islands, but the majority of flights are domestic. Visitors usually arrive via the country’s largest airport in Jakarta, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (IATA code CGK). Most flights for Bali arrive into Ngurah Rai International Airport (IATA code DPS).

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Opened in 1984 to handle the increasing numbers of international flights into the Indonesian capital, Soekarno-Hatta is Indonesia’s biggest and busiest airport; the world’s 8th busiest overall. The airport handles upwards of 62 million passengers a year, and is home to Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia. The airport is famous for having tropical gardens separating Javanese-style pendopo waiting and boarding areas.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport facilities

The airport consists of three terminals, each operating as combined domestic and international terminals.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport boasts a huge range of shops (with duty-free), cafes, bars, fast food outlets and restaurants.

The airport provides free Wi-Fi across all three terminals; and there’s an 18-hole golf course on site. The Sheraton Airport hotel is located just off the airport exit road, with 220 guest rooms.

Additional facilities at Soekarno-Hatta Airport include:

  • Numerous touch-screen information kiosks.
  • Banks, ATMs and bureaux de change desks throughout the airport.
  • Six VIP lounges – Two in Terminal 1 and four in Terminal 2.
  • A Post Office.
  • Numerous Musholla prayer rooms.
  • Reading corners across Terminal 2.
  • A left-luggage service with a lost property office.

Getting to and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport
The airport is located around 20 kilometres west of central Jakarta. Private taxis and several buses connect the airport to the city.

Car rental is available at the airport, and long and short-term parking is available at a fee.

Ngurah Rai International Airport

Ngurah Rai International Airport is located 13 kilometres from downtown Denpasar, the capital of Bali. The airport handles over 15 million passengers per year, serving as the major airport for travellers to the beaches, and nature-rich oceans, surrounding Bali.

Ngurah Rai International Airport facilities
Ngurah Rai consists of two terminals; the International Terminal and the smaller Domestic Terminal.

Ngurah Rai houses a wide range of shops (including duty-free in the International Terminal), cafes, bars, fast food outlets and restaurants.

Additional facilities at Ngurah Rai include:
